NAK-IS

UNION OF LAND CARRIERS, TRANSPORT COMMISSION AGENTS AND TRANSPORT CONTRACTORS

Independent employer union founded in Istanbul on March 2, 1964 to operate in the land transport branch.

The union is based in Istanbul and was founded by the representatives of 29 carriers, all of them residing in the Sirkeci region in Istanbul.

The union held general assembly meetings on: 8.4.1964; 26.4.1966; 17.4.1968;12.10.1970; 28.4.1972; 23.12.1972 (extraordinary); 22.4.1974; 7.5.1977; 20.3.1979; 11.2.1980 (extraordinary); 15.2.1982; 28.11.1983 (extraordinary); 24-25.12.1983; 13- 14.4.1985; 16-17.3.1988; 24-25.2.1990; 25-26.5.1991; 23-24.4.1994 and 8.11.1994 (extraordinary). The present board of the union is composed of Ahmet Yildirim (chairman), Ender Agir, Gencer Tekgöz, Mehmet Celik, Hikmet Kocaoglu, M. Hanifi Arikan and Halit Yamaner.

At the congress in 1966, the name of the union was converted to the Union of Land Carriers, Transport Commission Agents and Transport Contractors of Turkey. However the epithet „of Turkey" was dropped later.

The union signed collective labour contracts with Nakliyat-Is and Tümtis trade unions in 1995 for a period of two years for approximately 1000 workers employed in 129 workplaces.

The union does not have any branches or periodical publications.

It reported 150 members in 1971, 143 in 1975, 136 in 1978 and 190 in 1979. Starting from 1978 the union expanded with the affiliation of 218 carriers out of a total of 245 residing at the Turkish Transport Complex in Zeytinburnu. The strikes and lock-outs during the collective negotiations in 1987 caused the closure of a large number of companies and membership dropped to 171 in 1988. The merger of several firms further reduced its membership to 143 in 1993. It reported 150 members in 1996.

(KARA TASIMACILIGI NAKLIYAT AMBARLARI ISVERENLERI SENDIKASI)

UNION OF LAND CARRIERS AND TRANSPORT WAREHOUSE EMPLOYERS

Independent employer union founded in Izmir on September 15, 1993 to operate in the land transport branch.

The union is based in Izmir and was founded by Necati Boztepe, Muammer Katmerci, Erdinc Akyüz, Mehmet Nesip Adiyaman, Mehmet Doloz, Ali Tahsin Anilmis and Suat Yazici.

The first general assembly meeting held on February 26, 1994 was followed by an extraordinary congress on November 4, 1995 which elected to the board Zeki Dontlu (chairman), Dogan Ucoglu (general secretary), Behic Eryüksel (accountant), Zeki Karakuzulu and Esref Dogal.

The union does not have any branches or periodical publications, and it reported the number of its members as 45 in 1996.

UNION OF PETROLEUM PRODUCT EMPLOYERS

Independent employer union founded in Istanbul on August 6, 1965 to operate in the petroleum and chemicals branch, originally under the name of Union of Petroleum Product Employers of Turkey.

The union is based in Ankara and was founded by 16 Petrol Ofisi A.S. dealers. The temporary board of managers was composed of M.Celalettin Tapucu, M. Zühtü Gürsoy, M. Sinasi Bilgin, M. Hayrettin Piyale and Elmas Ercetin.

The recorded general assembly meetings of the union were held on February 17, 1968, December 15, 1968 (extraordinary), May 28, 1980, May 26, 1982, May 25, 1991, May 25-26, 1992, October 22-23, 1994 (extraordinary) and October 12-13, 1996. The board elected at the last congress and presently in office consists of Ismail Aytemiz (chairman), Rüstü Akalin, Alaeddin Kavak, Cemil Ugurlu, R. Emre Kücükcaglayan A. Fuat Etik, Muhsin Alkan, Ibrahim Timucin and Kemal Timucin.

The union publishes a monthly periodical called „PUISDergisi". It reported 690 members in 1978, 2,000 members in 1995 and 14 branches, 6,500 members in 1997.

Independent employer union founded in Ankara on February 11, 1992 to operate in the press and publishing branch.

The union is based in Ankara, and its temporary board of managers consisted of Galip Kaya (chairman), Erhan Gögen (deputy chairman), Vural Can (general secretary), A. Fatih Mutlu (assistant general secretary), Hüseyin Özciftci and Mehmet Kesim. The general assembly meeting held in 1995 elected the same persons to the board.

The union does not have any branches or periodical publications. It has not reported any information about its members.

Independent employer union founded in Istanbul on April 20, 1963 to operate in the accommodation and entertainment facilities branch, originally under the name of Istanbul Sinema ve Tiyatro Isverenleri Sendikasi (Union of Cinema and Theatre Employers of Istanbul).

The union is based in Istanbul and was founded by Aziz Borovali (temporary chairman), Asim Arslanhan, Asaf Sirman, Aleko Cangopulo, Cemal Köseoglu, Fikret Bulat, Fernando Franko, Ihsan Ipekci, Naci Ipekci, Mahmut Saracer, Metin Filmer and Namik Güner.

The union held general assembly meetings on: 28.10.1963, 16.10.1964, 27.10.1965, 30.11.1967, 24.10.1968, 15.10.1968, 3.11.1970, 12.10.1971, 17.10.1973, 9.10.1974, 20.10.1976, 20.10.1977, 12.10.1978, 3.10.1979, 10.3.1981, 7.12.1982, 25.11.1983, 6.10.1985 (extraordinary), 20.1.1990 and 23- 24.1.1993. UNION OF THE EMPLOYERS OF FUEL OIL DEALERS AND PETROLEUM AND GASOLINE COMPANIES OF TURKEY

Independent employer union founded in Istanbul on October 16, 1963 to operate in the petroleum, chemicals and rubber branch.

The union is based in Istanbul. Its temporary board of managers consisted of Nevzat Sayiner (chairman), Osman Azmi Karavelioglu (deputy chairman), Haluk Gülümser (deputy chairman), Selahattin Polat, Süleyman Sefik, Galip Jebban, Erdogan Tanbay, Turgut Saydam, H. Müeyyet Sezginmert and Ahmet Nihat Yilmaz.

The union held general assembly meetings on: February 21, 1964; August 26, 1966; August 21, 1968; September 29, 1970; December 4, 1974; January 19, 1977; May 25, 1978, February 28, 1979; October 20, 1982.

Particularly at the 4th congress in 1970 and 6th congress in 1974 one of the main issues debated were enlarging the membership of the union. Affiliation to TISK and establishing regional offices was debated at the congress in 1977. At the congress in 1978 the board reported the initiative they had taken for forming a federation with PUIS, and a decision was adopted for continuing these attempts despite the negative developments. At their meeting in 1982, the general assembly gave full support to the military coup on September 12, 1980.

The union reported 189 members in 1970, 587 in 1975 and 849 in 1980. Since then it has not reported any information about its members.

Independent employer union founded in Bursa to operate in the textile branch.

The union is based in Bursa and was founded by Yusuf Keteli, Faruk Senipek, Teoman Yibar, Alper Tansal, Cevat Batica, Hüsnü Yazicilar, Ömer Durak, Fikret Esgin and Bülent Semiz.

The recorded general assembly meetings of the union were held on October 27, 1983 (extraordinary), December 17, 1983, February 20, 1984 (extraordinary), March 21, 1988 (extraordinary), November 7, 1988 (extraordinary), January 15, 1990 and December 21, 1992. UNION OF ALL CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS

Independent employer union founded in Ankara in December 1990 to operate in the construction branch.

The union is based in Ankara and was founded by 35 employers in the construction sector. At its council of founders held on December 13, 1990 Mehmet Cihanalp was elected as chairman, Mustafa Özel as assistant chairman and Süleyman Sagdic as general secretary.

The union held general assembly meetings on June 1-2, 1991 and January 29-30, 1994. While the above-mentioned officers retained their posts, Kemal Gökcen was elected as general organization secretary, Ahmet Bozkaya as general finance secretary and Mustafa Yildiz as general education secretary.

The union has not reported any information about its members.

UNION OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS OF TURKEY

Independent labour union founded in Istanbul on June 28, 1979 to operate in the construction branch.

The union is based in Istanbul and was founded by 21 contractors including Turan Haznedaroglu, Ali Riza Yilmaz, Sami Sari and Atilla Cakir.

It held general assembly meetings on: 20.3.1983, 15.10.1983 (extraordinary), in 1986, on 3.1.1987, 10.2.1990 and 3.4.1983. The board elected at the last congress is composed of Sami Sari (chairman), Hamit Sezgin and Muzaffer Oflaz (deputy chairman), Haydar Gürbüz (general secretary) and Tufan Bacinoglu (accountant).

Union members are mostly contractors undertaking jobs from the public sector and the main activities of the union are directed toward eliminating bureaucracy at governmental offices and influencing relevant new legislation.

The union reported 500 members in 1995, including some of the largest companies in the sector such as Kayalar Insaat and Cevahirler Holding.

Independent employer union founded in Manisa on August 12, 1985 to operate in the cement, soil and glass branch.

The union is based in Manisa and was founded by Cavit Gebekli, Mehmet Altan, Coskun Gürcis, Cevdet Kartalcan, Hasan Cizmeci and Nuri Özmutlu, each representing a different brick and tile company.

The union held general assembly meetings on: July 19, 1986, March 13, 1989, December 1, 1990 and February 22, 1992. At the last congress Galip Bircan was elected as chairman, Nizamettin Özkizilcik as vice-chairman and Hasan Cizmeci as general secretary.

The union does not have any branches or periodical publications. It reported 22 members in 1990.

UNION OF EMPLOYERS OF PRIVATE HEALTH INSTITUTIONS

Independent employer union founded in Istanbul on July 3, 1964 to operate in the health branch.

The union is based in Istanbul and was founded by Dr. Osman Ucer, Ömür Caglar, Dr. Ali Nazim Köseoglu, Rabia Seniye Santur and Dr. Pakize Tarzi, each representing a different private hospital or clinic.

The recorded general assembly meetings of the union were held on September 30, 1976, in 1988, on June 2, 1990 and April 23, 1992. The board elected at the last congress is composed of Salih Osmanoglu, I. Münir Egilmez, Ergin Soral.

According to Ministry of Labour data, the membership of the union was 18 in 1972; 23 in 1974, 33 in 1975, 10 in 1980 and 13 in 1995.

UNION OF BREAD INDUSTRY EMPLOYERS

Independent employer union founded in Ankara on December 27, 1963 to operate in the food branch, originally under the name of Ankara Union of Bread Industry Employers.

The union is based in Ankara and was founded by A. Riza Kaplan, Sabri Mermutlu, Zekeriya Tez, Sahap Kuli, Osman Liman, Halil Akcengiz, Ibrahim Kandemir, Mehmet Ali Cakar, Ali Kuzu, Enver Liman, Niyazi Basaran and Ilhan Özcivelek.

The union held general assembly meetings on 14.4.1964, 15.2.1965, 6.9.1965 (extraordinary), 8.3.1966, 23.2.1967, 11.4.1968, 16.5.1969, 10.4.1970, 15.7.1971, 10.4.1972, 14.5.1973, 12.4.1974, 3.5.1975, 13.4.1976, 15.8.1977, 9.11.1978, 3.1.1980, 12.2.1982, 21.7.1991 and in 1996. At its last congress Remzi Gözüm (chairman), Semsettin Hacinecipoglu (general secretary), Nurettin Balta, Ismail Zorlu, Zarif Ulutas, Yusuf Eksi, Murat Muratoglu.

Starting from 1965, the union was affiliated to the Federation of Bread Industry Employers of Turkey, but its membership was automatically annulled in 1983 when the new Trade Union Act promulgated in that year abolished federations.

The union does not have any branches or periodical publications. It reported 133 members in 1971, 148 in 1973, 200 in 1979, 226 in 1983 and 252 in 1997.

TUMOTAS-SEN

UNION OF EMPLOYERS IN THE MOTORIZED LAND TRANSPORT SECTOR OF TURKEY

Independent employer union founded in Kocaeli on December 12, 1986 to operate in the land transport branch.

The union is based in Kocaeli and its temporary board of managers was composed of Ahmet Türkoglu, Mehmet Baskan, Emrullah Mirar, Muhterem Yigman, Imdat Tonyali, Nail Alkan and S. Sükrü Cillioglu.

It held its first general assembly meeting on May 3, 1987. In that year it reported 47 members.

As the union did not convene another congress which should have been held by 1990 latest, the public prosecutor’s office started investigations. It was then discovered that the board had agreed among themselves to resign from the union, which consequently became defunct. The legal liquidation formalities were not, however, completed by 1995.

Independent employer union founded in Ankara on February 26, 1976 to operate in the construction branch.

The Union is based in Ankara and was founded by M. Naci Kurt, Mevlut Hamzaoglu, Ertugrul Satana, Süleyman Özkan, Sakir Büsük, Seyit Yildirim, Kazim Turnaoglu, Orhan Özgül, Enver Durmaz, Sabri Sungur, Cemal Sirkeci, Mehmet Ertugrul, Nedim Kardes, Ilhan Sonbay, Mahmut Nefesoglu, Mustafa Kocyigit, Adil Eskipehlivan, Ahmet Rasim Top, Adnan Tanrikulu and Faik Yildiz.

The union held general assembly meetings on: February 5, 1977, February 3, 1979, June 16, 1979 (extraordinary), March 29, 1979, April 22, 1983, October 1, 1983 (extraordinary), November 16-17, 1983, February 28, 1988, April 25-26, 1992 and April 25, 1995. The last congress elected Mevlüt Hamzaoglu as chairman, Zülküf Aker as deputy chairman, Kemal Yildirim as general secretary, Mustafa Kasim Zorlu as finance secretary, Halil Esen as organization secretary, Osman Nuri Celikyay and Ekrem Capkinoglu. Yakup Aktas, Memduh Yildirim and Ilhan Sonbay replaced by Halil Esen, Osman Nuri Celikyay and Ekrem Capkinoglu after they had resigned.

The word „Turkey" was omitted from the name of the union between 1988 and 1992, until the necessary permission had been obtained from the Council of Ministers.

The union has branches in Istanbul, Izmir, Trabzon, Sivas, Denizli and Bursa. Its monthly publication „Türk Insa" has been issued in newspaper form between 1976-1981 and as a journal afterwards.

In 1996 the union reported 1,700 members and approximately 1,800 in 1997.

TURKIYE EKMEK SANAYII ISVERENLERI SENDIKASI

UNION OF BREAD INDUSTRY EMPLOYERS OF TURKEY

Independent employer union founded in Izmir on February 26, 1964, originally under the name of Ege Bölgesi Ekmek Fabrikalari Isverenleri Sendikasi (Union of Employers of Bread Factories in Aegean Region).

The union is based in Izmir and was founded by Osman Zeki Ergin, Hulusi Tekuz, Apdullah Sima, Selahattin Barutcu, Asim Dalgan, Hüseyin Erpay, Kemal Isbilen, Ismail Simanoglu, Sami Barutcu, Ibrahim Okumus, Hamit Paksoylu, Mustafa Sönmez, Kemal Kasman and Apdullah Colakoglu.

The union held general assembly meetings on: 27.5.1966, 5.9.1970, 28.2.1979, 9.10.1983 (extraordinary), 18.12.1983, 29.3.1987, 30.11.1990 and 27-28.4.1991. The board elected at the last congress is composed of Mehmet Ali Yolgörmez (chairman), Tekin Dalgic (general secretary), Bekir Yavuz (organization secretary), Cemal Ince (finance secretary) and Ibrahim Arslan (education secretary).

The union adopted its present name in 1983. It does not have any branches or periodical publications.

It reported 94 members (2 of them women) in 1971, 113 in 1972, 113 in 1973, 166 in 1975, 281 in 1979, 299 in 1980, and 310 in 1982. It has not reported about its members in 1996.

UNION OF OWNERS OF NEWSPAPERS OF TURKEY

Independent employer union founded in Istanbul in June 1954 to operate in the press branch.

The union is based in Istanbul and was founded by Zeki Riza Sporel, Nuri Türen, Kazim Sinasi Dersan, Ali Naci Karacan, Galip Arioglu, Abdi Sokullu, Z. Cemal Bakicelebioglu, Salih Zeki Akdamar, Selim Ragip Emec, Rasim Us, Gazanfer Kunt, Faruk Gürtunca, Cavid Oral, Dogan Nadi, Asim Us, Albert Karasu, Mithat Perin and Ethem Izzet Benice.

The union held general assembly meetings on: 20.5.1955, 29.6.1956, 23.3.1957, 29.8.1958, 30.3.1959, 6.9.1960, 16.3.1961, 31.3.1962, 26.3.1963, 21.2.1964, 7.4.1965, 31.3.1967, 25.4.1968, 23.4.1969, 27.11.1970, 20.4.1971, 10.4.1972, 30.3.1973, 12.4.1974, 14.4.1975, 30.4.1976, 14.4.1978, 11.2.1980, 26.3.1982, 15.12.1992, and 16.3.1996. The board elected at the last congress is composed of Nezih Demirkent (chairman) and Ibrahim Sezer and Kenan Sönmez as members.

The union was a member of TISK until 1970, when it decided to resign from this Confederation because of TISK’s lack of interest in the problems of the employers of press organs.

In 1967 an amendment was made to its charter so that only the employers of dailies issued at least 6 days a week and of important magazines and press agencies could become affiliated to the union.

Another amendment in 1976 stipulated that the union „will not engage in politics, and it is a national organization that will not act against nationalism and national interests".

The union does not have any branches or periodical publications. It reported 21 members in 1970, 18 in 1977, 18 in 1980 and 6 in 1992 (among them Bugün Yayincilik A.S., Cumhuriyet Gazetecilik ve Matbaacilik A.S., Dünya Süper Veb Ofset A.S., Hürgün Gazetecilik ve Matbaacilik A.S., Hürriyet Gazetecilik ve Matbaacilik A.S.).

It reported 17 members in January 1998.

UNION OF TOBACCO EMPLOYERS OF TURKEY

Independent employer union founded in Izmir on March 29, 1963 to operate in the food branch, originally under the name of the Aegean Union of Tobacco Employers.

The union is based in Izmir and was founded by Selahattin Sanver, Kazim Gürel, Nuri Karagözoglu, Mehmet Kavadarli, Mehmet Erboy, Nedim Rodop, Mahmut Cakin, Haydar Aryal (chairman of the temporary board) and Ilyas Sipahi.

The union held general assembly meetings on: August 15, 1963, April 15, 1964 (extraordinary), April 7, 1966, April 19, 1968, April 13, 1970, March 17, 1972, April 3, 1972, March 20, 1974, March 3, 1976, March 22, 1978 and March 12, 1980. The board elected at the last congress is composed of Bülent Sarper (chairman), Ali Borovali (deputy chairman), Cetin Tütün, Noyan Gürel and Oguz Özer.

Its name was changed to the Union of Tobacco Employers of Turkey at the general assembly meeting in 1964.

The union reported 36 members in 1974, 40 in 1978 and 42 in 1981.
