The union was founded in Ankara on November 16, 1992. It is organized in military workplaces. The board elected at the last congress held on 20.4.1997 is composed of Süleyman Azrak (chairman), Mahmut Özcelik (general secretary), Halit Kuzenk, Ahmet Yagmur, Cavidan Nizamoglu, Ferit Bingöl, Ali Riza Erdem, Ali Önal, Erdal Akin.

The union has branches in Adana, Afyon, Ankara, Eskisehir, Kocaeli, Izmir, Istanbul, Kayseri, Sivas, Balikesir, Sakarya, Elazig, Bursa, Diyarbakir, Erzurum and Iskenderun; representative offices in Amasya, Corlu, Erzincan, Kütahya, Nigde and Zonguldak.

It publishes a bimonthly periodical called „Asim-Sen". The Union reported 9,600 members in December 1997.

The union was founded in Istanbul on November 13, 1991 to operate in the transport branch. It is one of the founders of KESK and also a member of ITF. The board elected at the last congress on 21-22 July 1997 is composed of Orhan Altug (chairman), Kail Ibisi (deputy chairman), Süleyman Eryilmaz (general secretary), Abdürrahman Öztürk (finance secretary), Ehsan Aktas (organization secretary) and Ayhan Bozkurt (collective bargaining and legislation secretary)

UNION OF EDUCATION SCIENCE AND CULTURE WORKERS

The union was founded in Ankara on January 23, 1995 to operate in the education, science and culture branch; affiliated to KESK and EI (Education International).

The board elected at the last congress on 3-4-5.7.1996 is composed of Kemal Behcet Bal (chairman), Erol Savumlu (general secretary), Nursen Girgin, Necati Akpinar, Müslim Sahin, Cemal Unlü, Bayyürek Altin, Asuman Adali and Alper Öztürk.

It has 97 branches, among them 5 in Ankara, 8 in Istanbul, 6 in Izmir and 348 representatives.

The union has 137,000 members as of December 1997 and publishes a monthly newspaper called „Egitim-Sen" and a quarterly called „Egitim ve Yasam".

UNION OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEES AT DIRECTORATE OF CIVIL

SERVANT RETIREMENT FUND

The union was founded in Ankara on November 12, 1992 originally under the name of Emekli Sandigi Genel Müdürlügü Kamu Calisanlari Sendikasi (Union of Public Employees at Directorate of Civil Servant Retirement Fund) to organize at the Directorate of Civil Servant Retirement Fund. The board elected at the last congress in 1996 is composed of Aziz Yildirim (chairman), Tarik Kangal (general secretary), Cemal Bicer, Murat Gürses, Güldali Kocaoglu, Fahri Kala, Mustafa Toman and Sezai Aydin.

The name of the union was changed to Emekli Sandigi Calisanlari Sendikasi (Union of Public Employees of Civil Servant Retirement Fund) at the last congress in 1996.

The union has regional offices in Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Adana, Samsun, Erzurum, Diyarbakir and Afyon.

It has 1,550 members and publishes a bulletin called „Emek-Sen Bülten".

The union was founded in Ankara on February 12, 1996. It is an affiliate of PSI. The board elected at the last congress held on June 28, 1997 is composed of Cengiz Faydali (chairman), Bedri Tekin (general secretary), Nihat Erdem, Hakki Atil, Hüseyin Demirtan, Mustafa Kadioglu, Riza Bülbül, Ersat Akyazili, Aytekin Zihni, Ataman Zengin and Bahattin Murat Demir.

UNION OF GENERAL INDUSTRIAL PUBLIC EMPLOYEES

Labour union founded on May 17, 1996 by the unification of two unions, Sanayi-Sen (which was founded in Ankara on March 19, 1995 to organize the employees in workplaces attached to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce) and Sekam-Sen (which was founded in Izmit on June 20, 1994 to operate in the paper branch).

The board elected at the first general assembly held on December 7, 1997 is composed of Ömer Akin (chairman), Sedat Özparlak (general secretary), Nail Yilmaz, Mustafa Doganoglu, Nusret Ayanoglu, Cengiz Toygür and Levent Ercanli.

The union has branches in Afyon, Aksu, Balikesir, Caycuma, Dalaman, Kocaeli, Silifke and Ankara.

It reported 2,338 members, and publishes a bulletin irregularly.

The union was founded in Istanbul on January 16, 1992 to operate in the communication branch. The union held its last congress on 9-10 March 1995. The board elected at the last congress is composed of Ismail Cinar (chairman), Bekir Unsalli (general secretary), Sabri Aksoy, Yunus Türkölmez, Sehriban Sevim, Metin Kochan, Fuat Ispalarli, Hasan Ceri and Hidir Yavuz.

It joined KESK on 8 December 1995. UNION OF CULTURAL WORKERS

The union was founded in Ankara on September 14, 1992. It is organized in workplaces attached to the Ministry of Culture. The board elected at the last congress is composed of Izzet Polat Ararat (chairman), Cemal Balkiz (general secretary), Ahmet Köroglu, Bilal Simsir, Sait Duruakan, Sahin Ergüney, Gülnihal Erdogan and Hüseyin Gözel. The last congress was held in April 1997.

The union has 8 branches (Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Konya, Sivas, Kirsehir, Kayseri and Mersin) and 22 representatives.

MADEN-SEN

UNION OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEES IN THE MINING BRANCH

The union was founded in Ankara on April 30 under the name of Maden Iskolu Kamu Emekcileri Sendikasi (Union of Public Employees in the Mining Branch), 1992 to operate in the mining branch. The last congress of the union was held on 11-12.5.1996. The board is composed of Neset Demirtas (chairman), Iffet Aksen (general secretary), Cafer Siriyildiz, Eftal Soyal, Aylin Özkaya, Hulusi Ceyhan, Ahmet Alkilic and Kemal Cakmak.

On 25.5.1996 Iskenderun Demir-Sen abolished itself and joined Maden-Sen. The name of the union was changed to Maden, Petrol, Kimya, Metalurji Iskolu Kamu Emekcileri Sendikasi (Union of Public Emloyees in Mining, Petroleum, Chemical, Metalurgy Branch) on 22.2.1997.

The union has 9 branches (Ankara 1 and 2, Cayirhan, Soma, Yatagan, Iskenderun, Kütahya, Tavsanli and Zonguldak). It publishes a journal called „Maden-Sen". The union reported 11,000 members.

The union was founded in Ankara on April 9, 1992. It is organized in workplaces attached to the Ministry of Forestry. The last congress of the union was held on 19-20.4.1996. The union is an affiliate of IFBWW (International Federation of Building and Wood Workers).

The board elected at the congress is composed of Salih Usta (chairman), Sükrü Durmus (general secretary), Günal Sahin, Vecdi Kavlak, Nebile Karaduman, Belkis Korkmaz, Onur Gönüllü, Nurhan Dalkilic and Coskun Unal.

The union has branches in Ankara, Artvin, Balikesir, Canakkale, Denizli, Izmir, Mersin and Zonguldak. It publishes a bulletin called „Or-Kam-Sen Bülten". It reported 12,000 members in 1997.

UNION OF EDUCATIONAL STAFF

The union was founded in Ankara on March 3, 1994 to organize in higher institutes of education and research institutions. The board elected at the last congress held on January 11-12, 1997 is composed of Izzettin Önder (chairman), Oguz Oyan (general secretary), Melih Ersoy, Funda Basaran, Sule Necef, Atilla Ergür, Eren Deniz Tol, Aynur Soydan, Tuncay Konca. Özgür Müftüoglu took Atilla Ergür’s place, by the reason of his death.

It has branches in Mersin, Ankara, Hacettepe, Uludag, Yildiz Teknik, Istanbul, Ortadogu Teknik, Dokuz Eylül, Ege, Akdeniz, Bogazici, Gazi, Sivas Cumhuriyet, Istanbul Teknik, Mimar Sinan Universities.

The union has 2,700 members in 1997 and publishes a bimonthly bulletin called „ÖES Bülten".

SES

(SAGLIK VE SOSYAL HIZMET EMEKCILERI SENDIKASI)
UNION OF HEALT AND SOCIAL SERVICE WORKERS

Union founded on August 1, 1996 by the unification of four unions, Genel Saglik-Is (founded in 1991), Saglik-Sen (1990), Sosyal Hizmet-Sen (1992) and Tüm Saglik-Sen (1991) which were operating in the health and social service branches; affiliated to KESK and PSI (Internation Federation of Public Service Workers).

Veysi Ulgen, Cevdet Akgül, Mehmet Tiryaki, Cafer Balci, Nazife Kaya, Arzu Koluacik, Bülent Kecit, Reside Kösali, Mahmut Konuk were appointed as the temporary board by 227 founders. The board elected at the first general assembly held on June 7-8, 1997 is composed of Veysi Ulgen (chairman), Erkan Sümer (general secretary), Veli Büyüksahin, Cevdet Akgül, Yusuf Özden, Ali Kandemir, Refia Akcan, Adem Bulat and Bülent Arslanhan. After Bülent Arslanhan had resigned, Ismail Hakki Tombul took his post.

The union reported 48 branches, 26 representatives and 55,000 members. Urfa branch of the union was closed by the governor of Urfa for six months.

It publishes a bimonthly periodical called „SES" and a monthly bulletin called „Saglikta Hak Ihlalleri Raporu".

UNION OF CIVIL SERVANTS IN SUGAR INDUSTRY OF TURKEY

The union was founded in Eskisehir on July 28, 1993. The union is based in Ankara and organizes in the sugar branch. The board elected at the last congress held on October 24, 1995 is composed of Sadik Ottan (chairman), Ekrem Sönmez (general secretary), Kenan Kuvvet, Mehmet Caylak, Subutay Öztürk, Sefik Görgec, Seyhmuz Dal. Ekrem Sönmez, Sefik Görgec and Seyhmuz Dal replaced by Pasa Aslan, Oya Nalbantoglu, Mehmet Erdogan respectively. It has 20 branches and 12 representatives.

The union has 3,200 members in 1997 and publishes a bulletin called „Seker-Sen Bülten".

The union was founded on 6.6.1997 after the abolishment of TARIM-SEN which had been founded in 1992 by the same staff together with some other volunteers to operate in agriculture and food branch. The board is currently composed of Vahit Genc (chairman), Hasan Hüseyin Ulucan (general secretary), Mehmet Bayrakci (finance secretary), Mehmet Cicek (organization secretary), Kenan Özbostanci (collective bargaining secretary), Ahmet Öztürk (education secretary), Hüseyin Kadri Gültekin (legislation secretary), Aynur Kücükyilmaz (press and public relations secretary) and Hüseyin Demirtas (social and foreign affairs secretary).

It joined KESK in July 1997.

It has 10 branches in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Balikesir, Icel, Rize, Manisa, Sanliurfa and Rize.

The board elected at the last congress held on May 17-18, 1997 is composed of Tekin Yildiz (chairman), Deniz Peksan (general secretary), Abdurrahman Güzelgün, Esbender Ocak, Mehmet Carikci, Ali Ekrem Yalcin, Gencer Arhan, Rifat Oguz, Ali Riza Büyükkahraman. It has 18 branches and 43 representatives.

The union has 10,300 members in 1997 and publishes a monthly called „Yargi Gercegi".
