Egypt’s relationship with China has expanded significantly in recent years economically, politically and culturally. Yet, like many other countries in the Middle East and North Africa region, Cairo is cautiously walking the tightrope between China and the US to maintain balanced relations between the two powers, while exploring how to benefit from cooperating with Beijing at the same time. This paper therefore analyzes how the relationship between Egypt and China has developed, which perceptions of China dominate in Egypt, as well as which chances and challenges shape the prospect of the relationship between both countries.
