Hardgrave Disowns His Own Beat Up

Laurie Ferguson - Shadow Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs

Media Statement - 7 November 2003

Minister Hardgrave has issued a media statement denying claims that the Travel Fund for Former Child Migrants has run out of funds.

While I welcome this clarification, I am astounded that he quotes me as being the source for this claim.

Concern about the Fund only emerged as a result of an article in The Sunday Telegraph of 2 November.

In that article the source of the claim that the Fund had run out of money was Minister Hardgrave himself.

My media statement on Monday highlighted discrepancies between the Minister's comments in the article and his written answer to a parliamentary question.

Having been caught out generating yet another beat up in the weekend press - with the obvious objective of attacking the States - he should not seek to blame others for his own misrepresentation of the facts.
