Socialist International - A Bibliography
Overview on the organizational development

International Workers Aid

The International was originally founded in London in 1948, but did not succeed in organising its work. The Belgian Socialist Party initiated new discussions, and the actual founding congress was held in 1951; the organization became an affiliated member of the Socialist International; many of the member organizations still maintain links to trade unions and social democratic parties.
1951-1954 headquarters were located in Belgium, 1955 to 1970 at the Schweizerisches Arbeiterhilfswerk and from 1970 to 1995 at the Arbeiterwohlfahrt in Germany. Since the reorganization in 1995 Solidar has its own office in Brussels where the surviving archives of the organization are kept.
