Overview on the organizational development

International Council of Social Democratic Women

After the Second World War and the downfall of the fascist regimes, the social democratic women re-established their international co-operation and held their first conference in Vienna 1948. But this co-operation did not receive sufficient support from the Socialist International, and the International Socialist Women's Conference in London 1955 accordingly founded the International Council of Social Democratic Women.
In its statutes it was stated that the ICSDW is the association of women members or women's organizations belonging to parties affiliated to the Socialist International. The ICSDW is an associated organization of the SI. At the tenth conference in Vancouver 1978, a decision was taken to change the name to the Socialist International Women. The ICSDW/SIW bureau is situated at the SI headquarters in London.
